How to compress an image for a form
When a form says the file is too large, lower the quality in steps and check the preview. Start near 80 percent for a photograph and go lower only if you still need a smaller file.
Check the limit, then the picture
A 2 MB limit and a 200 KB limit need different results. Note the number the form asks for, then compress and compare the size shown after the download is ready.
Photographs tolerate a lower quality than screenshots and logos. If text or a logo looks soft, raise the quality or switch to PNG.
Resize first when the dimensions are huge
A 4000-pixel photo will stay large even at a modest quality. Resize it to the width you need, then compress. That order usually beats quality changes alone.
Keep the original
Compression throws away detail you cannot get back from the new file. Keep the original on your device. The tool runs in the browser and does not add a watermark.
