How to add or remove GST
- Choose add when the price is before tax, or remove when the total already includes tax.
- Enter the rate and the amount in that sentence.
- Click Calculate and read the tax and the other amount.
Adding 18% GST to 1000 makes 180.00 of tax and a total of 1180.00. Removing 18% from 1180 returns a price of 1000.00 before tax. Change 18 when the rate is different.
Frequently asked questions
Why does removing GST not just subtract 18%?
The tax is already inside the total. The price before tax is the total divided by 1.18 when the rate is 18%.
